Once your family research has expanded past three or four generations it can very quickly become tricky to remember how everyone is related. This is where a family tree can be extremely helpful, as it offers a clear visual representation of everyone’s place in the family and helps keep track of which generation is which. It is also really nice to see your name, and those of your children or grandchildren, connected to your grandparents, great-grandparents and beyond, illustrating the life of your family over hundreds of years in one single image. Children often find family trees easy to understand, making them a great tool for getting younger family members interested in their ancestors.
The size, level of detail, and number of generations included on a family tree are entirely up to you – you might want an expansive family tree, showing all your ancestors back five or six generations, or you might prefer a more detailed tree tracing one particular surname back multiple generations. I can work from research you have already done or start from scratch – all I need is your name and your date and place of birth.
The finished tree can be professionally printed, ensuring a high quality print that will last for future generations, or provided as a digital file, allowing it to be easily shared with other family members.
In addition to designing family trees for individuals I also work creating trees for inclusions within published books and memoirs. Trees provide a lot of complex information in an easy-to-understand format that can supplement and support the clarity of the story told within the text. Working within the size constraints of a book can be challenging so each of my trees is custom-built to ensure the best fit and layout to showcase the family while also bringing extra visual interest to the book.
